Suzan Crane explores one of Africa’s iconic destinations when game is plenty and visitors are scarce

Wanderlust Magazine

WanderlustOver 40 lions, five leopards, five cheetahs, 23 hyenas, 18 jackals, five bat-eared foxes and 60-plus mongooses – not bad for 12 days on safari. We’ve just returned from Kenya where numbers dominated the thoughts of our nine-year-old son, Joe. In fact, Joe himself discovered that he was worth two cattle or 10 goats, although we never got round to sealing the deal with our Maasai guide.

Sunday Independent

Sunday IndependentAt this time of year Kenya's great plain is packed with animals – and they put on a real-life horror show. If I were a lion I'd be worried. At least a dozen Maasai warriors in battledress are bearing down on us, armed with sticks.
